Surrounding Area

The Sandgate area contains a wealth of environmental parklands and wetlands in Boondall to the west and south, as well as a precious marine park in Bramble Bay. As well as its natural beauty, Sandgate has a variety of heritage buildings and homes, colouring the area with its impressive history.

Once a favoured seaside destination by early settlers, Sandgate is now enjoying a revival, becoming a haven for artists, musicians, performers and natural health practitioners.

Easily accessible by train, the Sandgate area is a welcome relief from hot Brisbane summers, with thousands of people visiting the district every weekend. As well as its bayside restaurants, cafes and shops there are also a range of sporting and leisure activities on offer.

Things to Do

Various sporting clubs in the area offer tennis, horse racing, motorcycle racing and sailing, as well as more subdued activities for the rest of the family. Beautiful walks along Brighton, Sandgate and Shorncliffe and numerous picnic areas beside Cabbage Tree Creek and in Moora Park.

The carefully developed shore line offers rollerbladers and cyclists the perfect bikeways running from Brighton to Shorncliffe, through Deagon and linking up to the Boondall wetlands. From Lovers Walk to the Sandgate Pier, there’s always a place worth walking to in the area.

If water sports are more your style, you can watch or participate in fishing, kitesurfing, canoeing, sailboarding, sailing and yacht racing. This vibrant community is alive with wildlife and activity and the Full Moon Hotel provides the ideal access point for it all. You can also opt to simply sit on the Full Moon’s Ocean Terrace and watch it all go by.
